Question of the Day
The Michelin Man Cometh
What tension? Whatever happens,happens.
I like the American Michelin guides more than the European ones, and I can't wait to see where the stars fall.
I am looking forward to a level playing field so to say. Chicago has many great restaurants and I feel sometimes so many get looked over because of the "second city" mentality. I also hope Chicago will have just as many stars as San Fran and maybe even New York.
I think it's pretty obvious what everybody hopes for. Need say no more. :)
I've thought about it a lot and I have to say that given the New York guide, we might be looking at only one 3-star, but I could see up to three. New York only had a handful of 2-stars in their first guide (the number jumped substantially this year) so we are probably only looking for a handful. 1-stars, who knows? There are a lot of worthy restaurants, but Chicago is not so much into the pomp and regalia of fine dining that Michelin looks for, so it all depends what they are looking for here. We'll see.
We are excited to have such a great guide come to Chicago. We are looking forward to the announcement in a few days
I won't be in the guide, being that I run a low-down southern bar, but I'm excited to see who gets the nod. I hope they don't make any mistakes!
Yes the tension has been in the air. My hope is that Chicago's amazing crafted cocktail scene is highlighted. There has been a pretty powerful movement here over the past 5 years. So many people have been working, training and fine tuning their skills. It's worthy of mention and will be great for the community
I think it's fantastic that Michelin has made it to Chicago. It's an aknowledgement that Chicago is an important culinary city. I can't wait to see who gets starred as a reward for their hard work. Here at Big Star, we are hoping for the "bib gourmand" designation.
i got an email yesterday that they wanted my personal contact info for the morning of the 17th for a personal call from jean-luc the head guy.hopefully that's good. i am sick to my stomach and look forward to the announcement so that i can stop thinking about it a little each day.
They've invited us to the party on 11/17. Our hope is that it's a ruse to surpise us with our Stars.
I think Chicago has a healthier and more vibrant dining scene than NY and expect to see a significantly higher number of Michelin stars per capita than the Big Apple.
I have very mixed emotions about Michelin in Chicago. I am curious to see what the standards are for a star in our city and how that plays out amongst the favored. I hope those that truly deserve recognition in the guide are given what is due, and am very curious about the lower tier of stars and how that plays out with all of the great restaurants in Chicago.

Hopes? That we get a damn star of course! What kind of question is that one?
I am nervous tha with our forward looking styles of cuisine found in this town, Michelin will be looking too much towards tradition to respect that and make it count.
