When we first begun the process of the design of Yusho, we wanted to make sure any art work which would exist in the space would directly relate to the area which we work. Both in content and artist. We approached Photographer Paul Elledge who in fact lives in Logan Square. He has produced three works for Yusho. Two photographs and a video loop.
The photographs are a collage of images taken within the Logan Square and Avondale area. The video loop is a abstract video which uses imagery shot in around the same areas. OUr goal is to potentially incorporate various artists and disciplines in the space of Yusho.

We have a few pieces of noodlecat inspired artwork that we commissioned when we opened, include a carved ceramic bowl, watercolor paintings, a large ceramic cat and cartoons!
We also have an awesome 3 pannel comic book featuring the chefs and noodlecat!
Next month we're hosting our first art exhibition featuring 3D photographs of the sawyer family.
Right now, we have a collection of vintage ohio made bicycles hanging in the restaurant from our friends at Blazing Saddles Cycles, a bike shop on Cleveland's near west side. The oldest bike in the show is from 1897!
We have some great pieces by a tattoo artist and friend of three aces named casey sass. he has done a mural of the poster of an old frank sinatra film "the man with the golden arm". He also did three framed pieces of our favorite drunks: nelson algren, charles bukowski and tom waits. Soon he's going to paint a mural on the fence that separates our patio form our back lot. We're also very fortunate to have a friend in tony fitzpatrick who not only designed our three aces neon sign out front and our business logo but also donated a few pieces that will soon hang proudly in the restaurant.
We feature the artwork of outsider artist Cynthia Low at West Town Tavern. Her bright colors, vivid imagery and bold constructs fit perfectly with the brick walls and wooden floors of the dining room. And hey, she is the chef's sister!
We're fortunate to have Stephanie Coate (https://www.cureeo.com/) curate the art at Telegraph - she features really talented, local artists. She was featured in TOC last November: http://timeoutchicago.com/things-to-do/this-week-in-chicago/15029563/chicago-bars-and-restaurants-curating-art-shows.
HB was always intended to be a restaurant/gallery....it features the words of my partner Bob Moysan...
our restroom, is also a second exhibit for him...
rsmimages.com is the link to his work
As part of our recent redesign and concept tweaking, one of the things we did was install photography taken by Mark and me during our travels in the South over the last few years. It's a very personal touch but also helps us communicate some of our inspirations through scenic vignettes of the South.
This would have to be the Aqua Teen Hunger Force portraits drawn on our chalkboard by our award winning Dining Room Maestro, Bill Talbott. He has been on record as stating that ATHF is an inspiration with their unique approach to comedy as EL Ideas has a unique angle towards creativity.
Nellcôte, the $2.9 million dollar restaurant and high energy nightlife concept in Chicago's West Loop features several notable works of art, including an installation of re-claimed Fender and Gibson glass tube amps from '69 through '72, sourced all over country and from music equipment dealers. The curved entrance flower wall features a "live" installation, using single-stem live Lavender sprigs to cover the entire length of the wall. he concept is inspired by Villa Nellcôte, an ornate 16-room mansion in the Côte d'Azur region of southern France where the Rolling Stones recorded “Exile on Main Street” during the summer of 1971.
Red Door--a hip, new 1,100 sq ft neighborhood eatery and bar in Bucktown proudly displays the works of acclaimed Chicago artist, Tony Fitzpatrick--whose pieces are also featured in numerous public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Fitzpatrick's gallery is located in a neighboring establishment to Red Door on North Damen avenue.
Super proud of what we have. We basically only have one art installation in the dining room HEARTY. That is a commissioned triptych of beautiful fused glass by an artist friend, Rob Cleve.
I am just as proud of what I refer to as my "earnest" art collection that covers the hallway and restrooms. As HEARTY is based in homey, classic American foods I have dozens of homemade needlepoints that I've collected throughout the midwest. The men's room is an art gallery of amateur portraiture. Some of it is very...rustic...but the point is that if it was made with hard work and best intentions it deserves wall space. I love it.
The space at Story is very contemporary. The only "artwork" in the space are glass panels that divide bar seating from the dining room. The 10' tall glass panels are overlaid with a vinyl image of a photograph taken by my uncle, famed photographer Ray K. Metzker. Ray's work is on permanent exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC and was on temporary exhibit locally in Kansas City at the Nelson-Atkins museum last summer when the restaurant opened. The photograph is an image of birch trees in Door County, WI at my grandparents' home where I spent my summers as a child.

Chris Butler is the artist at ESTATE. We started with images that I
selected from old Black & White Fellini movies and he created a process to
make the incredible over-sized pieces that grace the walls at ESTATE. Once
reproduced, the art was adhered to stained wood and a layer of shellac was
applied. The scenes are basically of people having a good time!
Julie Higgins has been our resident artist for years. It started as one of
many local artists that had a two month show and ended up being a mainstay
in two of our restaurants. Her work is also on our retail products as well
as our wine label.

The Bad Apple
chicago, Illinois
We definitely have some cool and unique stuff at The Bad Apple. We met
this beautiful artist, Kya,
http://www.thesomagallery.com/Pages/about_somaflux.html in Milwaukee and
she has helped transform our spot. Her 3 dimensional works utilize animal
skulls, bones, paint and wrought iron are beautiful. We have 2 pieces in
the restaurant we have designed with her. The one above the bar is named,
'Keepers Keep,' and is designed to protect our bartenders from the masses,
while the piece in the back, 'The Dragon of Eden', is to keep a watchful
eye on the customers and The Apple as a whole. If you haven't seen these
pieces, or any of her other work that is available for sale, then you are
missing out. Pictures don't do these 2 justice. Through Kya we have
hooked up John at PCI Group, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwik9ScBuKU.
They have designed the rusted Bad Apple that hangs above our entrance as
well are designing our new outdoor patio. So, when its all said and done,
we at the Apple are honored to have Kya and John's work in our home
