Dinner on the Grounds, ca. 1915 with Koval Distillery
Special Dining Event: August 22, 2012
Wednesday, August 22 Big Jones will welcome our friends and neighbors, Koval Distillery for a special whiskey dinner titled "Dinner on the Grounds, ca. 1915," inspired by the old Southern church revival tradition of potlucks and outdoor eating. Receipts for the dinner are being taken from, and inspired by the book "Dishes and Beverages of the Old South" (1913) by Martha McCulloch-Williams and Rueel Crofoot. In addition to tastings of Koval's exciting lineup if whiskeys and cordials, guests will enjoy dishes traditional to old Southern dinners on the grounds, such as a special pimiento cheese with heirloom sheepnose pimientos and Otter Creek Summer Cheddar, watermelon pickles and boiled sliced calf's tongue, salt-risen bread, new crop sweet potato biscuits, green tomato preserves, cold fried chicken, cold slaw, and dressed sweet potato greens. Dessert will be Angel food cake with local peaches and wine jelly. Service for the dinner, in keeping with revival dinner tradition, will be family-style, and rather than courses, a succession of dishes and relishes will presented to be enjoyed leisurely. Price for the dinner is $50 per person including tax and gratuity. Reservations can be made by calling 773-275-5725.
