Boterkoek met Advocaat (Dutch Buttercake with Bradied Almond Cream) at HB Home Bistro

Boterkoek met Advocaat (Dutch Buttercake with Bradied Almond Cream) ($9)
I first had Advocaat when i was in college, spending some time studying linguistics in Lisbon, Portugal. What a strange liquor. Uniquely Dutch...it is an egg liquor flavored with Brandy. ( a friend convinced me to try it mixed with sparkling lemonade....a very strange taste, indeed) We serveĀ a housemade versionĀ as a pudding at HB, but it also makes a great sauce for a classic Dutch dessert called Boterkoek...a simple sweet, bready cake flavored with almond extract and vanilla. A traditional "grandma style" treat that fits so well into our repetoire at HB. EET SMAKELIJK!
