Q: Think about all the places you've visited. What is your favorite vacation destination, and why?

For a long time I looked forward to going to food cities like San Francisco and planning vacations around restaurants. Now I'm more interested on going to see family and maybe lying on a beach somewhere quiet.

Q: What's your favorite food city you've visited? What are some of your most memorable eats there?

It's a toss up between NYC and San Fran/Bay Area. We spent our honeymoon at the French Laundry in the day before Thomas Keller was a brand available all over the world. He was in the kitchen that night. He made our truffle risotto. It was amazing. We had really memorable meals at Oliveto in Oakland, Veritas, Babbo, Gramercy Tavern, Park Avenue Cafe, Lupa and Blue Hill in NYC, and the best breakfast ever at Tartine in San Fran.

Q: Vacation is all about relaxation, first and foremost. In that regard, what relaxes you most on vacation?

A beautiful afternoon with my wife on an outdoor patio with a glass of wine or a nice cold beer and no obligations.

Q: Say you're opting for a "staycation." What would your itinerary be in your own town?

Breakfast at Lula, maybe a movie or a pastry and a cup of coffee at Floriole and a nap. Then make some dinner at home and go out for a drink at Longman, the Bluebird or Rootstock.

Q: Do you prefer your vacations to be cold weather destinations or hot?

Somewhere in between. Napa in the fall is perfect
