My most cherished non-culinary job, other than teaching, was working for 4 years as a Resident Assistant on an Alzheimer's wing of a nursing home in Madison, WI. Having grown up watching my grandpa suffer from this disease, I was drawn towards helping others with dementia. I loved this job - I spent time hanging out with old people, helping them get around, take care of themselves, eat, sleep, etc. I learned many things from the people I worked with and ultimately this experience showed me the importance of living in the moment.
